WHAT ARE DMC-ODS WAIVER SERVICES?

DMC-ODS Plan services are health care services for people who have at least one Substance Use Disorder that the regular doctor cannot treat. DMC-ODS services include Outpatient Services, Intensive Outpatient Treatment, Residential Treatment, Withdrawal Management, Opioid Treatment, Medication Assisted Treatment, Recovery Services and Case Management. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) produces the criteria to improve access to care, assessment, patient-centered service plans and efficient outcomes-driven treatment and recovery services.

TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR AN OPIOID USE DISORDER

OPIOID (NARCOTIC) TREATMENT

The Opioid (Narcotic) Treatment program provides scheduled medication and counseling to maintain stability for those with an opioid use disorder. Studies show that people with an opioid use disorder who follow detoxification with complete abstinence are very likely to relapse, or return to using the drug.

While relapse is a normal step on the path to recovery, it can also be life threatening and raise the risk for a fatal overdose. There are medications that can help reduce the side effects of withdrawal and cravings without producing the euphoria that the original drug of abuse caused. This has been proven to help reduce the risk of relapse for individuals in recovery.

MEDICATION ASSISTED TREATMENT

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) provides prescribing, ordering, administering and monitoring of medications for substance use disorders.

  • Medication can safely reduce opioid craving and withdrawal, allowing the brain's chemical balance to recover over time.
  • MAT decreases opioid misuse and reduces opioid-related overdoses and deaths.
  • An individualized assessment and medical plan are required.
  • MAT is not a one-size-fits-all approach.
  • MAT does not substitute one addiction for another.
  • MAT is not a substitute for counseling and behavioral therapies.
